| In the midst of the Oil Crisis in 1973, Japanese supermarkets were faced with sudden shortage of daily necessities merchandise which led to sky- rocketing price hikes and inflation followed later on. At that time, numbers of supermarket operator strongly felt the necessity of national-wide buying power for stable and adequate supplies of quality merchandise at reasonable prices. They banded together to form CGC JAPAN under the leadership of "Supermarket Santoku" in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Keeping pace with the growth of the supermarket industry and by CGC Japan's 30 years of commitment, CGC JAPAN has grown. Now the number of CGC affiliated members accounts for over 200 companies which operate 3000 supermarkets in all parts of Japan. |
